A game we should have won by a margin ended up with us having to equalize with nearly last kick of game. Very poor on our part. Longsight, despite not being near the team they were, battled well and deserved their point in the end.
And yes i did hit the bar from 2 yards out! (Brought it up before someone else does )
Finally managed to sort out getting logged on to the forum - my silence is not due to our poor start to the season!
Funny old game! Wire started stronger and were knocking the ball around well in the first 20 minutes. They didn't have many clear cut chances despite a huge territorial advantage and a number of promising moves. Tolly curled a beauty from the edge of the area that hit the inside of the post (I did get a slight fingertip to it but no-one believes it!) and the only other serious shot to save was one that was sneaking inside the near post.
We started to get into the game and had some nice moves forward while starting to contain Wire a bit better. Funnily enough it was then that Wire opened the scoring through a speculative effort that took a deflection. Wire continued to have more of the possession coming up to half time at 1-0.
We came out well for the second half, we got a bit closer to Warrington in midfield and were playing some good football going forward. We got an equaliser when we had some good passing down the left, one shot was saved, another was blocked and then Craig Lawler rifled in from a tight angle. Soon after that we went 2-1 up. A lovely cross from the left by Ricky saw Craig hit the post and Rob Eastwood got his first goal for us following it up.
The last 15 minutes of the game were crazy! Wire put us under a massive amount of pressure and we looked good on the break. Wire missed a free header from a corner, another effort was cleared off the line while the Wire keeper made a great save after one of our corners (there was also Tolly's miss referred to above - how did that happen?!?!). With one minute to go Wire had a succession of corners and their pressure told with a good header into the far corner.
Game was played in a good spirit and was competitive and fair. Very enjoyable to play in. All the best to Wire for the rest of the season.
