Burnley Yellow 1 Hazel Grove 2Hell of a game this one & an excellent display of what a SMCCFL game should look like.
Lots of chances for each team but combined efforts of excellent defending & good saves kept the score down.
We started poorly & the 1st half defintely belonged to HG. They looked very assured & creative going forward and were quicker than us to the ball. They scored and it was probably deserved due to them playing very good football. A little bit of inexperience at the back gifted them a few chances also which they failed to convert.
Having said that we did have some patches where we played quite well - managing to hit the bar & the post through some good attacks.
In the second half we played a lot better and created some good chances. They did catch us on the break a few times & probably should have scored after a deflected shot put their striker 1 on 1 with our keeper.
We managed to pull one back to make it 1-1 and i really felt that the game could go either way at that point. Unfortunately we just didn't have enough left in the tank and a great run & cross down their left & a great finish from the edge of the box seasled the game.
We all walked off the pitch feeling like we had played in a great game - each team were only interested in playing footy & put on a great show ....sadly there were only 3 or 4 supporters to see it 
Grove looking good & have started well against 2 strong teams, will be interesting to see what happens this season. I think we're a little un-organised but definitely couldnt fault the lack of effort each player showed today.

could not agree more with Burger, one of the most enjoyable games I've been involved in between two very evenly matched sides.
We started well and dominated the first half, we then had to withstand a lot of pressure in the second half which we did with our keeper and our back four outstanding again today.
We would have been gutted to have left with only a point and we kept going well after Burnley had equalised.
We have started the season really well but we know that there isn't an easy game in this division this season and we have to work hard every game.

i agree with u burger was a great game to be part off and i really enjoyed it.due to the small pitch there was plenty of chances for both teams we took the lead in the 1st half and we knew we could of went in at half time 2-0 up we created the better chances and had more options in attack...but 1-0 was a good end to the half for us.
second half we played some great football but burnley we're equal to it and they were rewarded with a goal to equal the scores at 1-1 we could of easyly put our heads down after this because of missed chances before the equaliser but we got into gear and started creating all types of problems there back 4 which lacked communication aswell as not being organised we scored near the end to make it 2-1 i felt we gave burnley to much of the ball at times due to mistakes and poor clearances that they could of took advantage on another day...as the full 90mins were coming to a end we kept our shape and kept it tight till the final whistle.
i always enjoy playin burnley there a good bunch of lads and i wish them luck for the rest of the season.... UP THE GROVE!!!
