Cup final - burnley yellow 3 Longsight 1

Haven't time to type much apart from to say - we scored afterabout 30mins after a lot of pressure and a few missed chances. Longsight did well in the second and could have had a penalty after some sustained pressure. we refound our rythm and managed to score 2 in the last 10 before they added one just before full time.

I'm now off to watch burnley beat Reading in the playoff!

Some very good football, it was good to watch. I reckon the scoreline well reflects a match in which the best team won, but the match was certainly not one sided and the result was in doubt until the last 10 minutes. It would have been very interesting if Longsight had got an equaliser from their sustained pressure in the first part of the second half.

I thought ref Tony was excellent. Decisive, clear and in full control of the match. In particular, the way he let play continue if there was a possibility of an advantage, but if not then stopping play for the free-kick.

Enjoy the Summer. See you all next season !

great game to be apart off i thought burnely played very well first half they created alot and worked alot harder than we did we. when half time came there was a sense of relief that the score line was only 1-0 and that gave us belief second half we came out battling and started to play some good football and created some very good chances and on another day we would of put away but its wasnt to be.i strongly believe we were denied a penalty which could of changed the game and made it 1 a piece cannot knock tony tho because he let the game flow and refed the game really well burnely finnished the game off in the last 10 we got court napping for 2 goals to many of ours players were quiet on the day and we didnt work hard enough but we will learn Smile just like to say congratulations to burnley to winning the cup.                                                                                                                                                                                                                pitty it ended the way it did it was a disgrace in my eyes hope we can forgive and forget Smile i always enjoy playin burnley great team and a top bunch of lads lookin forward to playin ya next season

Well, here's my take on the game which is fairly similar to Goudy's.  Burnley were superb in the first half while we didn't even turn up - they seemed to pressure us all over the pitch and were incisive going forward.  Phil, our keeper, made two fine saves and the woodwork was rattled a couple of times.  Burnley finally made the breakthrough when a free kick was played in, I mis-judged it and, after putting my name on it, saw the ball drift over my head and get headed in.  I then had our best chance of the half after winning the ball on the edge of the Burnley area but couldn't get the ball out from under my feet and ended up hitting the sort of shot that you do to gently warm up the goalkeeper!  1-0 to Burnley at half time.

We came out for the second half determined to give a better account of ourselves and started putting Burnley under pressure.  We had a couple of half chances and the best came when Craig Lawler got clear but mis-hit his shot wide.  We also had a good penalty shout when Craig was tackled while running out of the area.  I realise that Tony would not have had the greatest angle to judge it and if in doubt you should call it outside but I had a good view and it was in the area!

With about 10 minutes to go we went three at the back and almost immediately Burnley got a second with a nice ball through and a good finish.  They then added a third when a great ball was whipped in from a free kick and Warby decided to save time by putting the ball into the net rather than waiting for the Burnley players queuing up behind him to do it.  We pulled one back right at the end but it was always going to be too late.

After that there was a stupid, pointless bust up right on the final whistle to ruin a very fair and competitive game.  The less said the better although there will rightly be consequences for the fact that a few people let themselves and their team down.  I can only apologise to the Burnley players and the people who were there for having to experience that.

The only silver lining to the day for me was scoring four goals in the 6 a side tournament after a goal-less season!  It was also fun watching some of the lads trying to tackle Ivan Drago who was playing for Macc Parish and he seemed to just brush them off like flies!!
