We (Firwood) have had a mixed start to the season. We've been in devastating form in our 3 pre-season friendlies but were appalling in our opening game 4 nil defeat to Pennington.
However, there were no complaints with the football today. Fantastic passing and moving gave us the upper hand in what was a great game of football. Both sides gave it 100% and it was played in great spirit.
I think there were two particular moments worth noting.
After Firwood took the lead, Foundry equalised through a long distance shot from their number 7. It's a definite contender for goal of the season. It was disappointing to see it end up in our net - but it was a cracker.
The other moment of brilliance was from our keeper. A great header from a Foundry player from about 7 yards out was flying into the bottom corner, only for Paul Hay to somehow get down and tip it wide. It was also great to see some of the Foundry players applauding it.
It was a good reflection of the game that the scoreline was so close. Both sides gave everything and had a fair amount of chances. The final five minutes were nail biting and only another super stop from our keeper prevented Foundry from grabbing an equalizer.
I couldn't choose a man of the match for Firwood because all the players put in a great performance. For Foundry, number 7 and 6 were a handful in midfield and both had great games.
Thanks to Foundry for giving us such an enjoyable game - they are a great bunch of lads. Already looking forward to the return leg.

Agreed
Agreed great game, not sure firwood had upper hand, first half foundry should have gone in nearl 5 - 1 up! we lost game on not taking chances but were punished by a persitant firwood. There defence was solid and we couldnt get through second half.
A good game, played in a great spirit. Certainly looking forward to the replay!
Thanks chaps

Don't remember you having 5 chances on goal in the first half to be 5-1 up...was pretty even if you ask me!
