This was a really enjoyable game, despite the pretty heavy rain in the second half!
Both teams started pretty brightly, but we managed to take the lead and never looked back. It was a very solid Firwood performance and it was great to see us cut out the mistakes which have cost us from keeping clean sheets in the past.
I was pretty concerned heading into the match because we were missing 5 or 6 big players, but the team performance was excellent - I'd be hard pressed to choose a man of the match.
Ramsbottom, to their credit kept going all game and played some nice football at times, but couldn't really get any momentum going. I suspect the return leg will be a much closer game.
It always a pleasure to play them and we look forward to the next game with them!

Er, not so enjoyable if you LOST!
Well played Firwood, a well deserved heavy win. Ramsbottom offered very little and have to see this as a low point from which to bounce back.
Like Firwood we had a number of people missing (7 I think) which meant just 11 of use and quite a few playing out of position. Still, no excuses as the 11 who were there didn't do well enough. I'm glad we have a game next week, hopefully we'l get this drubbing out of the memory.
Congratulations to Matt Coward who missed the game because his first child was born the night before.
Played in a very good spirit, refereed well and hopefully we'll do better in the return.
