Foundry 0 Hope Salford 0

Another 0-0 this weekend - not something you see too often in our league!!

A close game this, played on pitch that, despite being quite undulating and with a pronounced slope, was very consistent and true all over.

Foundry started well, shooting down the slope, their two central midfielders playing well, linking up with each other and bringing others into the game well.  We were taking our time to get going.  They had a high looping shot / cross that came back off our bar which rebounded to their striker but fortunately did return it on target.  We then started to get going and put a few passes together, resulting in a few shots and corners.  Foundry were defending well and we got caught offside a few times when playing good balls through.  Half time 0-0.

Second half started with Foundry on top.  They were awarded a penalty for an adjudged shove.  Our keeper did extremely well to save it.  We then got more into the game and attacking much more down the slope.  Despite getting the ball wide we just couldn't create clear chances, it was one of those days where the ball didn't run for one or two of our players.  We had a couple of chances we should of buried - one coming out to the edge of the box from a corner to one of our midfielders who side stepped defenders but put it just over the bar and then one where our striker chested it down and turned to shoot inside the box but put it over - a chance he would normally bury with his eyes closed!  Foundry had their own chances, one being put just wide as our keeper rushed out.  Final score 0-0.

All in all, probably a fair result, although we are disappointed not to create more or do better with the chances we had.  Foundry will be disappointed to miss the penalty.  We certainly didn't play as well as our first two games of the season and looked a bit leggy at times, but at least we came away with a point and are still unbeaten!!  Credit to Foundry.  They have some good players, played well as a team and were solid.  It's hard to see how they hadn't got any points so far this season, probably a touch of misfortune!!  They were a good bunch of lads and the game was played in an excellent spirit, no issues whatsoever.  This helped the ref who was also very good I thought.

Cheers for the game Foundry, looking forward to the rematch! Good luck for the rest of the season!

I'm glad to see Foundry pick up a point. I was really impressed with them in their game against us (it was VERY close) and was astounded to see them on 0 points after two games in.

Great result at managing to get a point against Salford (who are surely the favourites to win division 2). Will be interesting to see if Foundry start to chalk up some big wins now they've broken their duck.
