I don't believe we'll see many games in this sort of weather this season... congratulations to all those guys who lasted the full 90minutes in the boiling hot sunshine.
Other than a few poor tackles, the game was played in a good spirit with a ref who was keen to keep the game moving.
St. Paul's FC recorded their first ever opening day victory on a great pitch with some strange/fortunate goals for both teams. Foundry opened the scoring from what seemed like a cross which our keeper palmed onto the bar only to then somehow deflect the ball back into the net. St. Paul's responded with two well taken goals from Scott Brogan, the second following a huge mix up between Foundry's centre back and goalkeeper. Half Time 1-2.
With the pitch slope in Foundry's favour in the 2nd half they started the brighter and got an a equaliser which was a bit fortunate following what seemed like a foul on St.Paul's player, the ref waved play on, with the resulting Foundry shot taking a deflection wrong footing our keeper. But thankfully are heads didn't drop and a well taken freekick fell to Tom Fowler to fire home under the keeper. With a minute to go we also missed a penalty following a poor tackle from a Foundry defender.
We hope this is the start of a good season for St.Paul's FC. Thanks for the game Foundry- I'm not sure they'll be too far behind us this season.
