Quite an even opening few minutes with both sides trying to push forward, but it was Firwood who drew first blood with Joel M scoring after a nice through ball from new boy Reece.
Wasn't long until Sale struck back after a good throw-in for a close range header at the back post.
Fortunately, we were having a good day and didn't let our heads drop. A first time hat-trick of fantastic headers from Smithy meant that we went in with a comfortable half time lead of 4-1 (and Smithy hit the cross-bar with another header!)
Both sides continued to give it everything but I think we were just too strong today. The game seemed to settle down and it stayed at 4-1 for a while. Then the ball came out of the Sale box after a corner and big Jonny Bollard hammered it into the top corner of the net with a cracking stike to make it 5-1
A beautiful looping shot from Reece made it 6-1 with ten minutes to go.
It looked like it would play out with a quiet ending, but credit to Sale - they kept going and had their best spell in the last ten minutes and were rewarded with a definite penalty which was calmly slotted away.

I thought the ref was pretty much spot on and kept the game moving well
A great performance from Firwood but it should be noted that Sale showed some real ability and much like we did in our first season last year, they'll get better and better as they get more games under them.
