Poor day at the office for Pennington today, unfortunately losing our star midfielder in the first 10 minutes, but all in all Pennington didn't turn up today. Salford did well and got the early goal, it stayed at 1-0 until mid second half. Pennington missing a penalty to equalise and unfortunately that was the turning point. Just didn't happen for pennington today. Good look to salford for the rest of the season, apart from the return match of course:-)

Super result for us and an encouraging performance again! As Pejoro said, Pennington weren't at their best today, but I'd like to think a lot of that was down to how we played and kept battling to not allow them to play how they can. Pennington have had, and will have, better performances than today. Having played them in a pre-season friendly where the scoreline was a lot closer, we knew we had to play well.
First half started pretty evenly, both sides getting the ball forward, us combining well and getting down the flanks and behind the defence to put balls in the box a number of times. On one such occasion our striker was at the back post to tuck it away, and get him off the mark for the season! Half ebbed and flowed and we could have had a second when a never ending goalmouth scramble finished in the ball being cleared. I've never seen the ball spend so long in the six yard box! We defended very well, particularly on their corners as their height threat came into force. Half time 1-0.
Pennington came out at the start of the second half well, as we knew they would, and put us under some good pressure for a while. This resulted in a penalty for arms in the back, justly given, but one you rarely see given in the premiership! Luckily it wasn't the best penalty and our keeper saved it. This was a turning point, as we soon got a second goal after a break away. Pennington heads seemed to go down a bit then and, as they tired we took advantage, scoring a third and fourth. The last 25 minutes was pretty much all us and we kept the pressure on very well up the pitch and created more, including hitting the bar with a header. Final score 4-0.
Overall, a pleasing morning for us! The game was played on a good pitch, in good spirit with not really any bad tackles or any issues between players. The only person to get any grief was the ref for a short spell as he gave a number of freekicks, but most were justly given. Hard luck to Pennington, who, as mentioned, can and will play a lot better this season. All the best for your season and we look forward to the return game!
Lots of players had top games for us today, all over the pitch, so well done Salford, let's keep building on this!!
