Pennington 1 Hurdsfield 1

Hurdsfield taking the lead in this one mid way into the 1st half. The game stayed at 1-0 with both teams having chances on goal, Hurdsfield missing a couple of sitters in front of goal to finish the game off. Pennington had a good chance to equalise with 5 minutes to go but the keeper made a good save. Into the final minute pennington awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the box. From the touch line was difficult to watch but the penalty was slotted away well. Hurdsfield i expect discappointed to not take all 3 points from this one. Pennington played ok in spells, but didn't really threaten as much as they can. Pennington pleased to take a point from this one, and very pleasing to see the team keep playing right to the end and if you do that in football as we all know, you never know what you can happen next! For a change Pennington not  on the receiving end of a last minute goal. Game played in good spirit, a few poor challenges in the last 15 but the referee tended to get most things right.

Pejoro is right that we are disappointed not to have won this. It was a close contest, not just the score line. But Hurdsfield should have got the second goal that our majority attacking posession deserved, which would have sealed the result. Pennington worked really hard in defence.

But at 1-0 there was always a chance that we would pay for not scoring another goal. Close to the end CCP missed out on an equaliser when our keeper made a good block from a one-on-one and then in the last minute the penalty which they converted. From the sidelines I was very close to the action and had a good view of the ball hit our full back's shoulder/top of chest. To me it was not a hand ball, and from where the referee was I was sure he could not see it. I reckon he gave a penalty based on him assuming it was hand ball without seeing it. Anyway, it happened, we accepted it, CCP scored and that is football.

Friendly and sporting contest from both sets of players. I thought the referee was good, made majority correct decisions (except the pen !) but should have been firmer with the CCP players who we thought gave a away alot of fouls and put in a few dangerous tackles (but in no way malicious).

Thanks to Pennington for a good game of football, a really good contest.

It looks like div 2 is shaping up into a close and competitive league which is great for all concerned.

Just a few things to say about the game:

Game:  Good game which we should have won.  Much credit to CCP for pushing us right to the end.  Some good players and I'm sure they'll get a lot stronger as the season goes on.

Ref:  I agree he got most decisions right, except penalty, and he was always near the action, except penalty.  He however did not 'protect' players enough, i.e. giving cards or warning players to be careful of  challenges.

CCP:  Friendly team to play against, some good banter throughout the match.  However after I was first fouled early on in the game the player in question said: 'Just letting you know I'm here'.  I was dissapointed as this is not the spirit in which the league operates.

I play for CCP. Was really impressed with the way we kept going. Last season we would have lost this one. Rather than keep going we'd have let our heads drop and conceded 3 or 4 towards the end.

Thought the ref got most things right which is all you can ask for. He called a couple of offsides against us when they weren't but without linesmen they will always be touch and go. I didn't see the penalty but the ref did say when I asked him that he felt the Hurdsfield player moved his arm towards the direction of the ball and that it defo struck his arm.

What I will say about reffing in the league is that the last couple of seasons it has got much better. This is my 5th season in the league and the first 2 seasons it was hit and miss as to whether a ref would even be at the game. This as contributed to better games.

Hurdsfield played in the right spirit. Competitive and fair. Was really impressed when the ref gave a blatant corner as a goal kick but the Hurdsfield back four owned up to it being a corner.

A great game to play in.

90 on and off the field

If it's any consolation to those travelling back on a choked M60 after the match, apparently due to a bump on the Barton water-jump, it was just as bad getting to and going down the M6 back to Macc via Knutsford - a full 90 minutes after the match which was about as entertaining as watching paint dry.  However the 90 during the match was a different story...

This was an excellent game.  Sadly I did not see the disputed handball so can't comment on that but the conduct of all was good at a rather tense moment.  I do pride myself however, especially being a relative novice to this whole footy supporting business, in the fact that I knew a goal was coming our way as soon as the Hursdfield throw-in was delivered.  Why?  It was the formation, formation, formation - something about the in-line position of the Humbugs (sorry lads, that's my new alias for HTHFC) made it a dead cert!  A lesson there I think?

HTHFC man of the match - Dom for lightning dashes into attack really shaking the Pennington defence.

It takes two decent teams to make a great match and this was a very good example; very well played all, great touchline entertainment even in the rain.  M6 - you're sacked!
